Galleries of Justice
Step inside the shadows of history…
National Justice Museum has stood for centuries as a place of judgment, punishment… and unrest.
Dating back to 1375 as a court and later a prison, countless souls passed through its doors. Some never left as expected.
In 1724, tragedy struck when an overcrowded courtroom floor collapsed, sending people plunging into the darkness below.
Public executions once took place on the very steps outside. Crowds gathered in their thousands, drawn to the spectacle. But fascination turned to horror when panic broke out, crushing spectators and claiming lives on the steps that still stand today.
The last execution was carried out in 1864. But many believe… it never truly ended.
