Granville Country Park Ghost Walk
π» THE LOST MINERS OF GRANVILLE π»
SHADOWS BENEATH THE EARTH
An Interactive Ghost Walk with The Wright Paranormal Events
π THE MINES ARE SILENTβ¦ BUT THEIR HISTORY IS FAR FROM FORGOTTEN.
Hidden beneath the woodland of Granville Country Park, Muxton, lies a world once filled with darkness, danger and the relentless sounds of heavy machinery.
For generations, men descended deep underground, never knowing whether they would return to daylight.
For some, that final journey into the darkness would be their last.
βοΈ THE THREE MEN WHO PLUNGED TO THEIR DEATHS β 1904
On 26 April 1904, tragedy struck at Granville Pits.
Three men were working inside a mine cage when a massive wooden pump rod broke free and fell down the shaft.
The falling timber struck the cage, breaking its supporting chains and sending the men plunging to their deaths.
All three were killed instantly.
An ordinary working day became a tragedy that would never be forgotten.
β°οΈ THE LAST CRIES OF JOHN FENN β 1899
In June 1899, 49-year-old miner John Fenn was working underground when part of the roof collapsed.
A heavy piece of shale pinned him to the ground.
His fellow miners heard his desperate cries and rushed to help, struggling to remove the fallen rock.
But it was too late.
John Fenn never returned home alive.
ποΈ THE FORGOTTEN WINDING HOUSE
Deep within the park stand the remains of Muxton Bridge Colliery’s winding house.
Built in 1884, it once housed powerful steam engines that raised and lowered cages into the mine shafts.
Imagine the thunder of machinery, the rattling of iron chains and the voices of miners preparing to descend.
Today, the engines are gone.
The machinery has fallen silent.
But the ruins remain.
π² THE MINERS’ FINAL CHAPTER
On 21 May 1979, Granville Colliery finally closed.
It marked the end of deep coal mining in Shropshire.
Generations of mining history were left behind, and nature slowly reclaimed the industrial landscape.
THE MEN HAVE GONE. THE MINES HAVE CLOSED. BUT THE STORIES REMAIN.
