Oak House Museum
A house steeped in history… but are some of its former residents still here? 👀
Hidden away in West Bromwich stands Oak House, a remarkable timber-framed building whose history stretches back over 400 years. Dating to around 1600, this beautiful Tudor-style house has witnessed centuries of changing lives, generations of families and a world that has long since disappeared.
Once home to the Turton family, wealthy yeoman farmers with connections to nail-making and money lending, Oak House has a fascinating past. In 1774, the famous Methodist preacher John Wesley even preached in the courtyard. In 1898, the house was opened to the public as a museum, allowing its history to live on for future generations.
But behind its striking black-and-white timber frame and historic charm lies a darker reputation…
👁️ IS OAK HOUSE TRULY HAUNTED?
Oak House has attracted paranormal interest over the years, with reports of unexplained activity that have left visitors and investigators questioning what might remain within its ancient walls.
Reports associated with the building include shadowy figures appearing in doorways, strange movements glimpsed from the corner of the eye, and the sound of footsteps echoing through empty rooms and along the stairs when nobody can be found.
There have also been accounts of unexplained knocks, strange noises and the apparent movement of objects. One of the most talked-about stories describes a mysterious woman dressed in black, reportedly seen sitting in the kitchen before seemingly disappearing.
Staff have also described unsettling experiences within the building, including feelings of dread, the unnerving sensation of being watched and an atmosphere that can feel heavy, dark and deeply uneasy. There are times when unexplained footsteps seem to break the silence, leaving those present wondering whether someone — or something — is moving through the house unseen.
Is it simply the atmosphere of a centuries-old building, or could there be something more?
