Hidden within the peaceful surroundings of Stanmore Country Park lies the history of a once-bustling RAF training station.
From 1939 until 1963, RAF Bridgnorth was home to thousands of servicemen passing through military training.
But beyond the parade grounds and barrack huts was another world…
🏚️ THE FORGOTTEN MARRIED QUARTERS
At The Hobbins and Russell Close, RAF personnel lived alongside their wives and children.
For some, these weren’t temporary quarters. They were home for years.
One family remained in the station’s married quarters for 15 years, right through to the camp’s closure.
Imagine the conversations behind those doors, children playing outside and families waiting to discover what the future held.
🩺 THE HOSPITAL AND THE MORTUARY
The original RAF camp plans reveal something many visitors may not realise.
The station had its own hospital, baby clinic, ambulance facilities and mortuary.
These were places where real people experienced illness, uncertainty, recovery and loss.
👣 THE ECHOES OF THE PARADE GROUNDS
Thousands of young recruits marched across Stanmore during their eight weeks of basic training.
Long days. Freezing mornings. The commands of drill instructors ringing across the camp.
Today, much of that landscape has disappeared beneath trees and grass.
But the old concrete roads remain.

This particular ghost walk is wheelchair friendly. Please be mindful, we are walking in the dark late at night through a public walk way. Bring your torches and wear suitable clothing and footwear.
This event is 16+ and will go ahead in all weather conditions apart from extreme weather warnings or immediate threat.
